Eric R. Ramirez-Thompson, PhD, earned a degree in Criminology, Law and Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), where he researched the identification of variables that help explain the direct and/or indirect effects of technology on crime and deviance and how, over the past decade, computerization has changed the nature of the criminal justice profession. Prior to coming to Chicago, he earned a Master of Science degree in Criminal justice from California State University, Long Beach while working with the Orange County Adult Drug Court. His contributions to the multi-phase treatment program included alternative treatment modalities; most specifically, exercise. He is the author of peer-reviewed publications on drug court interventions and the role of physical fitness in programming of client treatment outcomes. For the past fifteen years, Dr. Ramirez-Thompson has been a criminal justice professor at College of DuPage, the second largest undergraduate education providers in Illinois, where he incorporates his interest of wellness into his teaching and encourages aspiring criminal justice professionals to embrace the importance of physical and emotional wellness.
