Eric Riedel
Century College Dean of Nursing, CECT and Online Learning Excellence
Dr. Eric Riedel has served in administrative, teaching, and research roles in higher education for over 25 years with specific interests in assessment, online learning, and civic education. He is currently the Dean for Nursing, Continuing Education and Customized Training, and Online Learning Excellence at Century College. Prior to coming to Century, he served in roles of Contributing Faculty, Director of Assessment, Executive Director for the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, and Interim Executive Director for the Center for Research Quality at Walden University, before assuming the post of Chief Academic Officer and Provost from 2011-2019. Prior to that, Dr. Riedel served as a Principal Investigator and Research Associate at the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI) at the University of Minnesota, where he led evaluations in support of secondary and postsecondary educational interventions.
Dr. Riedel has taught research methods and political science at Walden University, Concordia University, North Hennepin Community College, and the University of Minnesota. He has authored or co-authored more than 65 articles, book chapters, and presentations in the areas of educational assessment, online social interaction, and civic engagement. His work has appeared in publications such as Assessment Update, the Journal of Social Issues, Political Behavior, American Behavioral Scientist, and the Journal of Teacher Education. He joined the Board of Directors for the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education in 2009 and served as its president from 2014-2016. He currently serves on committees with the Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education and the Grand Challenges in Assessment Working Group.
Dr. Riedel received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota. He resides in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, His hobbies include bicycling, hiking, and home improvement projects, much to the chagrin of his two sons.
