Open Educational Resources became a passion project for me almost 4 years ago. It was my first year as a faculty member and I realized just how expensive some textbooks can be and how many students were having to choose between the textbook (to be successful in my course) and food for their families. And I was astounded by that. It became my mission to convert as many of my classes as possible to OER (low or no cost) to not have students face that adversity again. Since then I have successfully transitioned both of my lower level chemistry courses to OER, but the current challenge I face is regarding upper division courses, where free or low-cost resources are few and varying quality. This challenge will be the subject of a lightning talk I'll be delivering.
