Sharon leads the Office of Educational Technology’s higher education innovation initiatives that explore the complex ecosystem of lifelong, lifewide postsecondary learning and the opportunities technology provides to broaden access to education for all learners. Most recently, these initiatives focus on open education, credential interoperability, accessible learning resources, and the Education Blockchains Initiative. Sharon also works in offices across the government on projects that showcase promising practices in digital workforce development and building capacity for emerging technologies. Part of her portfolio includes implementation of the U.S. Department of Education’s Open Licensing Requirement for Competitive Grant Programs and support for the Open Textbook Pilot Grant Program.
Sharon’s career in government has spanned the last three administrations. She previously worked at the U.S. Department of Labor on programs that included the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) program, which distributed nearly $2 billion in grants. Sharon is an aspiring park ranger.
