Learning about Health Equity through online Platicas as Introspective Healing

In this session the audience will gain a thorough understanding of the history of Platicas, how they are utilized in Chicano Latino Studies and how they can be utilized in alternative classroom environments in order for students to better reflect on their personal experiences and connect them to the topics covered in class. This pedagogical tool involves continued reflection and growth along with open access to readings that break with the traditional and are written by underrepresented authors about underrepresented topics, that affect the students in a personal way.

Learning Outcomes: Define and apply the pedagogical tool of platicas
Develop a plan for how to integrate open access resources that are written by underrepresented authors
